An giant XL sashiko needle from Olympus Thread Mfg. Co., specially made for sashiko and boro with very thick threads.  This sharp, strong needle won't bend as you pleat your fabric onto it (unlike most embroidery needles). The longer needle helps keep straight lines straight and you can load up lots of stitches at once. It really is HUGE - use it for boro or sashiko with thicker threads, such as DMC or Anchor Soft Cotton embroidery threads and other thicker threads, or thick sashiko thread.
