This super thick striped 'chore coat' (work coat) fabric is designed by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society for Moda, in the Blue Ribbon solid colourway. Woven from threads that are spun with a slightly variable thickness, it has a lovely hand woven look, and it would be so easy to use the weave to line up your sashiko stitches - or even do a fine version of kogin (I would suggest using a medium sashiko thread for stitching if you want to do kogin details on these, as the regular kogin threads I sell will be a little too thick). It would also make an excellent foundation fabric for stitching appliqué style boro inspired pieces. It has a soft handle and drapes nicely for a thick, warm fabric.
I have two other chore coat fabrics (both stripes) available as yardage, plus a fat quarter bundle which includes six more.
A lovely detail of all these fabrics is their lime yellow selvedges - something I would want to feature in a boro inspired work I think (top edge of a bag?)
NB - limited quantities, and I can't reorder this. Once it is gone, it's gone. As these were the last few the wholesalers had, I managed to get them at a special price for you too.
110cm wide.
NB - sold in half metre (50cm) lengths, so please order '2' for one metre, '3' for 1 1/2m etc. Fabric will be sent as one continous length.
100% cotton
Woven in India
I advise preshrinking all Indian cottons before use - just spray with water thoroughly and iron dry, to avoid any unexpected shrinkage.
