Philip Jacobs released the 'Iznik' collection under his Snow Leopard label, produced by FreeSpirit fabrics, about 10 years ago - way before I was selling patchwork fabrics. I managed to track down just one fairly short bolt of this beautiful 'Kashgar' print from my wholesaler. It is a beautiful print inspired by middle eastern ceramics, and would mix well with fabrics from Philip's other ranges, like 'Tribal'.
This is what FreeSpirit wrote about the collection at the time -
'The Iznik Collection is inspired by the decorative pottery and tiles that were produced in the town of Iznik in Anatolia, Turkey, between the 15th and 17th century. Iznik pottery is known throughout the world for its vivid cobalt and turquoise blue glazes and simple swirling patterns inspired by natural forms. The pottery was originally inspired by the Chinese blue and white Ming dynasty porcelain that was being brought along the Silk Road during the 15th century and had such a profound influence on the Ottoman court at that time. The collection itself has been developed from a select group of glazed tiles and plates. As well as simple floral and geometric motifs, it includes such elements as the tree of life. This new collection from Snow Leopard continues to give a contemporary form to these great artistic traditions from the past, while allowing them to be enjoyed in our homes today.'

Printed on patchwork weight cotton, this fabric makes an ideal coordinate for my sashiko panels, and the colours can be matched from my extensive range of sashiko threads. Free Spirit fabrics are printed on a 68 count cotton rather than the 60 count used for many other brands, meaning they are slightly finer than many patchwork fabrics and are also suitable for making clothing.
