Just arrived, this gorgeous new sashiko panel from QH Textiles, 'Twilight Dragonfly' (first photo), printed on burgundy on a yarn dyed two tone nep (slubbed effect cotton). The shade is very similar to the deep red in my own sashiko panels, and to Kofu Tsumugi 2003.

This pre-printed Sashiko cloth is hand-printed with water soluble ink on soft yarn dyed fabric. Just follow the stitching lines and enjoy!

English instructions are easy to follow.

Fabric  size: 14” x 18.5” (37 x 47cm approx.)

Finished Size: 12” x 16 1/8” (30 x 41cm approx.)

100% Cotton.

NOTE: The markings on this pre-printed Sashiko fabric wash off after you have finished stitching. Don't prewash!

The second photo shows its companion panel, 'Windchimes'. Both panels are also available in taupe brown, slate blue, and grey (black).

I suggest edging the raw edges with a machine zigzag or narrow overlock stitch to prevent fraying before you start.

  • These panels would look lovely stitched in white or cream for a traditional look, but why not introduce a little colour as well? We have a huge range of sashiko threads that would be suitable - any of the medium or fine threads would be ideal.

For needles, you can use any of our sashiko needle selections to stitch this.

I would suggest stitching the straight lines first - somewhere to warm up! Stitch the circle outlines next, then fill in each circle with the geometric sashiko pattern. Most of these patterns have a traditional sequence for stitching (see my book, The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook).

Starting and finishing with a knot on the back is pefectly OK! I would back these panels with another fabric, such as a pretty patchwork print in a coordinating colour.
