This stunning bi-directional design (first photo) is reminiscent of formal women's furisode kimono designs, with noshi bundles of ribbon-like fabric strips and flying cranes all bringing good fortune and colour to the design, against swirling water printed in gold. Gleaming gold adds a luxurious warmth all over this design. Perfect for adding that authentic touch to your Japanese themed project.
'Matchi', while sounding like 'machi' (town) is also a word loaned into Japanese from English - 'matching' - and there is another print in this range that makes a great coordinate with this one (second photo).
I used a lot of these kinds of prints in my books 'Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match' and 'Japanese Quilt Inspirations', and they aren't so easy to find at the moment, so I'm always pleased when I spot another design I love.
