A bold design of hawks and fans against a backdrop of Mount Fuji, mist, and pine, Washi is full of auspicious imagery, especially associated with men's fabrics, with gold highlights on black. Perfect for adding that authentic touch to your Japanese themed project.

Washi , written as 和紙 is the word for Japanese paper, but written as 儂 it is used as a pronoun by older Japanese men, rather than 私 watashi ('I') which is used formally by younger people and informally by women (men, especially younger men, use 僕 boku informally). Confusingly, washi the pronoun can also be written the same way as watashi - 私! As this design is the kind of bold pattern once used for men's juban (under kimono), I think that it is probably used in the sense of the pronoun here.

I used a lot of these kinds of prints in my books 'Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match' and 'Japanese Quilt Inspirations', and they aren't so easy to find at the moment, so I'm always pleased when I spot another design I love.
