These stunning new colours of sashiko thread will be arriving in late February, so for now you can look but not order. I will be opening advance orders on these colours in late January, so I can send orders out as soon as they arrive from Japan.

Medium mercerised sashiko thread 100m skein, shade #305 'Konpeitou' (first photo)- dyed with 6 colours!  One of four new rainbow colours. Suitable for all your sashiko and boro stitching.  May be used double or singly.

The manufacturer says - 'The color is inspired by Konpeitou, a sugar confectionery that has been loved since ancient times as a gift for celebrations and as a gift from shrines and temples. The color is colorful and cute, making it the perfect color for stitching the konpeitou pattern.' Yes, some konpeitou candies are blue (see second photo) - !

The Konpeitou sashiko sampler hanafukin is available in indigo blue, light blue, and white.

Please note - this mercerised thread feels slightly smoother and thinner than the non-mercerised 20m sashiko thread. It is less likely to 'shred' or go slightly fluffy when stitching.

Ideal for my printed sashiko panels.

Sashiko needles - use either Olympus Thread Mfg. Co.sashiko needles 2 pack or 4 pack.

Available in many beautiful solid colours, plus 'bokashi' (shading to white) and varigated multicolours.

  • Sashiko threads skeins have to be opened out before use. Slide of the skein band first. You will find all the thread is tied together at one point.  Cut through the skein at the knot, so all the threads are cut (you'll find these are the ideal length for stitching doubled).  Push all the thread through the skein band, and then plait the thread loosely.  Pull out each thread as you need it from the loop end of the plait, not the 'fringed' end. This saves time trying to wind the thread into a ball, keeps it tidy and you know the thread shade number if you need to re order.
