These stunning new colours of sashiko are new releases for 2025.Be one of the first to add these fabulous new sashiko thread colours to your collection!
Medium mercerised sashiko thread 100m skein, shade #140 'shidori' or purple bird (first photo) - one of ten new solid colours! Suitable for all your sashiko and boro stitching. May be used double or singly.
The manufacturer says - 'The color is inspired by the deep purple "purple crow,'' which resembles the feathers of a crow that has been considered a messenger of the gods. You can create works with depth similar to bird feathers. The name of the color makes it look like a bird's feathers, making it the perfect color for stitching arrow feathers.' It would look great for including in the new Yabane (arrow feather) sashiko sampler hanafukin panel.
Please note - this mercerised thread feels slightly smoother and thinner than the non-mercerised 20m sashiko thread. It is less likely to 'shred' or go slightly fluffy when stitching.
Ideal for my printed sashiko panels.
Sashiko needles - use either Olympus Thread Mfg. Co.sashiko needles 2 pack or 4 pack.
Available in many beautiful solid colours, plus 'bokashi' (shading to white) and varigated multicolours.

#140 Shidori purple bird 100m medium sashiko thread
Sashiko threads skeins have to be opened out before use. Slide of the skein band first. You will find all the thread is tied together at one point. Cut through the skein at the knot, so all the threads are cut (you'll find these are the ideal length for stitching doubled). Push all the thread through the skein band, and then plait the thread loosely. Pull out each thread as you need it from the loop end of the plait, not the 'fringed' end. This saves time trying to wind the thread into a ball, keeps it tidy and you know the thread shade number if you need to re order.
