These stunning new colours of sashiko thread will be arriving in late February, so for now you can look but not order. I will be opening advance orders on these colours in late January, so I can send orders out as soon as they arrive from Japan.
Medium mercerised sashiko thread 100m skein, shade #136 'suō', a rich burgundy red (first photo), deeper than 100m #104 - one of ten new solid colours! Suitable for all your sashiko and boro stitching. May be used double or singly.
The manufacturer says - 'This color is inspired by the noble color "suo", which was loved by the aristocrats of the Heian period. Embroidering patterns such as shippō (seven treasures) and tatewaku (rising steam), which were favored by the Heian period aristocrats, evokes an elegant culture'. Both shippō (in several variations) and tatewaku patterns are available as printed sashiko sampler hanafukin panels, so why not try this colour for those designs?
Please note - this mercerised thread feels slightly smoother and thinner than the non-mercerised 20m sashiko thread. It is less likely to 'shred' or go slightly fluffy when stitching.
Ideal for my printed sashiko panels.
Sashiko needles - use either Olympus Thread Mfg. Co.sashiko needles 2 pack or 4 pack.
Available in many beautiful solid colours, plus 'bokashi' (shading to white) and varigated multicolours.

#136 Suo burgundy 100m medium sashiko thread
Sashiko threads skeins have to be opened out before use. Slide of the skein band first. You will find all the thread is tied together at one point. Cut through the skein at the knot, so all the threads are cut (you'll find these are the ideal length for stitching doubled). Push all the thread through the skein band, and then plait the thread loosely. Pull out each thread as you need it from the loop end of the plait, not the 'fringed' end. This saves time trying to wind the thread into a ball, keeps it tidy and you know the thread shade number if you need to re order.
