These stunning new colours of sashiko thread will be arriving in late February, so for now you can look but not order. I will be opening advance orders on these colours in late January, so I can send orders out as soon as they arrive from Japan.
Medium mercerised sashiko thread 100m skein, shade #133 'chōji', clove (first photo) - one of ten new solid colours! Suitable for all your sashiko and boro stitching. May be used double or singly.
The manufacturer says - 'This color is inspired by cloves, which were used in various things during the Heian period, such as medicines, fragrances, and kimono dyes. Because of its rarity, it was considered to be auspicious, making it ideal for embroidering patterns such as fundō (balance weights) and shippō (seven treasures).' Both these patterns are available as Olympus sashiko sampler hanafukin printed panels.
Please note - this mercerised thread feels slightly smoother and thinner than the non-mercerised 20m sashiko thread. It is less likely to 'shred' or go slightly fluffy when stitching.
Ideal for my printed sashiko panels.
Sashiko needles - use either Olympus Thread Mfg. Co.sashiko needles 2 pack or 4 pack.
Available in many beautiful solid colours, plus 'bokashi' (shading to white) and varigated multicolours.

#133 Chōji clove 100m medium sashiko thread
Sashiko threads skeins have to be opened out before use. Slide of the skein band first. You will find all the thread is tied together at one point. Cut through the skein at the knot, so all the threads are cut (you'll find these are the ideal length for stitching doubled). Push all the thread through the skein band, and then plait the thread loosely. Pull out each thread as you need it from the loop end of the plait, not the 'fringed' end. This saves time trying to wind the thread into a ball, keeps it tidy and you know the thread shade number if you need to re order.
